Education and Care Services National Further Amendment
Regulations 2024 (SA)
On 10 May 2024, the Education and Care Services National Further Amendment Regulations
2024 (NSW) (the Amending Regulations) amended the Education and Care Services
National Regulations 2011 (NSW) (the Regulations) to amend the qualification requirements
for educators of children over pre-school age in South Australia.
Qualification requirements for educators
of children over pre-school age
working with children over preschool age for South
Australia.
Previously, the Regulations required the first of
every 2 educators required to meet the educator to
child ratio for children over preschool age to hold
one of the approved qualifications for educators
working with children over preschool age for South
Australia.
Additionally, qualified educator means an educator
who:
The Amending Regulations change this by requiring:

the first of every 2 educators required to meet to
educator to child ratio for children over preschool
age to be a qualified educator; and
at least 1 of the qualified educators at the service
to be a first qualified educator.
A first qualified educator means an educator who
holds a qualification that is published under
regulation 137(2) of the Regulations, in the list of
approved qualifications for first qualified educators

is a first qualified educator; or
•
holds a qualification that is published under
regulation 137(2) in the list of approved
qualifications for second and subsequent qualified
educators working with children over preschool
age for South Australia.
Conclusion
Organisations that provide centre-based services for
the education and care of children over preschool
age in South Australia should ensure their
educators meet the new qualification requirements
